Permits not needed for protest rallies

In a radical move by the Singapore Gahmen, permits are now not needed to hold protest rallies by an individual, group or opposition party. This is in line with the Gahmen’s vision to encourage free speech, creativity and entrepreneurship. The move was greeted with enthusiasm from citizens, opposition parties and especially human rights activists who have been campaigning for years against the old policy.

Speaking at the press conference, Minister for Home Affairs, Mr. Soh Tu Lan said, “The Gahmen has reviewed its current policy on free speech. We have realized that the old policy is too rigid and it is not in line with the vision of Singapore being a creative and exciting city. Therefore, the Gahmen has decided to abandon its permit rule. The only exception is that the rallies must not be held on the mainland or Sentosa.”
