Inspired by the 1988 Jamaican Bobsled team, the gahmen has made a rallying cry to the nation to qualify for its first ever winter olympics in 2014. However, it is not certain as to which event they aim to promote.

Mr Mickey Mao, head of the Corrective Work Order (CWO) offers his plan. "CWO has long been perceived with great negativity. This year we are re-branding CWO to represent Curling for Winter Olympics 2014. We will work harder to 'scout' for talent aka litterbugs, harness their passion and polish their skills. Until the proposed curling facility is completed, our initial training programs will include roller-bowling and roller road-sweeping."

Pulau Ubin Primary School offers trycultural program

Not to be outdone by Tampines Primary School, who recently started offering a bicultural program in Confucianism, Pulau Ubin Primary School is set to offer a trycultural program beginning next year.

Mr Lai Chee, the head of department of mother tongue at Pulau Ubin Primary School said, "This program was created to give our students a choice of designing their own cultural program. They can try any culture; no need to stick to one or two. It is like a buffet; eat until you are full and pay one price. Now, not only elite and neighborhood school students will have the chance to experience this program. We hope to inspire the other schools on the other islands."

Yo Mat Riders,

Mat is now in the city of bradda-ali-love. It is quite a change from Bawston. One thing is the sports here cannot make it man...dunno how the Phillies can win the world series. Alamak, the worstest part about them winning the world series was that the whole city had a parade and Mat lives on that block; cannot kun until 3am and after the parade, super dirty max.

Apart from no street cleaning (Mat always pray for rainy day to wash the pee and dog poo from the streets and when it snows, it is hard to tell where the dog poo is, so Peeladelphia becomes a mine field), Peeladelphia is not bad. Public transport is quite fast and the city is grid system, so my Minah gets lost less often. Also, food is cheap but if you drop the food on the food, the 5 second rule does not apply here. Mat cannot take that chance.

Mat has return. It has almost be one year since Mat wroted anything. It is a combo of busyness and a lost of inspiration. Anyway, Mat is graduated lah. Time to leave bawston soon and move on with Mat's life. The power thing about graduation is the ceremony itself but better is the gift.

Mama Mat was there but Papa Mat cannot be there but he send the best present man. Check it out, a limited edition Waterman Man 100 made of briar wood, a Waterman Man 200 and a Waterman Gentleman. The bug has bitten Mat. Uhuh!

Yo Mat Riders,

Mat is back. Today is Hari Raya. In the morning, Mat go to the masjid, the newly built mosque in Boston. People in Singapore takes Mosque for granted, almost every corner also got one. Here in Boston, a bit more challenging.

The mosque was crowded max. Mat cannot sneak in for the 1st session, so got to relac one corner. Alamak, waited for 1 hour man. Here are some pics. The mosque is still tak complete. The structure is done but got no carpet, so the floor super freezing. Lagi, today was quite cold lah, about 8 to 10 celcius. Luckily Mat got mat, prayer mat.

The SDU (So-sial Development Unit) is set to change its focus from bringing men and women together to bringing parents and children together. This initiative is in conjunction with the gahmen's pro-family work-life balance program to help families with both parents working full-time bond more closely with their children.

In a recent survey, parents and children were polled how long each day they spent together as a family. Almost 75% replied 1 hour or less. Interestingly, the same percentage also falls under the national poverty level.

Mr Aji Nomojo, a spokesperson from SDU said, "We have set up very creative programs to help the families interact and bond more closely. We have work around the time constrain issues by the families who have to work 3 jobs or more. Programs include blind-bonding and speed bonding."

Hours of Work and Overtime

Part IV of the Employment Act & Section 33 are applicable only to:

* All Workmen
* Other employees earning not more that $1,600 per month (excludes, overtime, bonus, aws, productivity incentives and allowances)

* Hours of Work

* Overtime

Definition of Week

To determine Hours of Work and Rest day in a week

Week

Means a continuous period of 7 days commencing at midnight on Sunday (Monday to Sunday)

Hours of Work

An employee's `hours of work' is the period during which the employee is expected to carry out the duties assigned to him/her by the employer. It does not include any intervals allowed for rest, tea breaks and meals.

Contractual Hours of Work

An employee covered by Part IV of the Employment Act is not required under his/her contract of service to work more than eight hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.

The limit of eight hours per day may be exceeded when an employee is not required to work more than five days a week. However, he/she is not required to work for more than nine hours per day or 44 hours in a week.

If the number of hours worked is less than 44 hours every alternate week, the limit of 44 hours a week may be exceeded in the other week. However, this must be stated in the contract of service and is subject to a maximum of 48 hours in one week or 88 hours in any continuous two week period.

A shift worker may be required to work up to 12 hours a day, provided that the average working hours each week do not exceed 44 over a continuous three week period.

An employee who is not on shift work can be required to work up to 12 hours a day if the employee gives his consent in writing after the provisions of Sections 38 & 40 of the Employment Act have been clearly explained to him. He must be informed of the daily working hours, the number of working days in each week and the weekly rest day.

If the employee's rest day falls on a day other than a Sunday, the employer is required to prepare a monthly roster and inform him of his rest days for the month at the beginning of each month.
Overtime allowance will be payable only if the employee is required to work more than an average of 44 hours a week over any continuous period of three weeks.

Break Time

An employee is generally not required to work more than six consecutive hours without a break.

However, if the nature of work is such that it must be carried on continuously, an employee may be required to work eight hours continuously. In such an instance, a break or breaks must be given so that the employee can have his/her meal(s). The duration of the break(s) should be no less than 45 minutes.

Maximum working hours

An employee is not allowed to work for more than 12 hours within a day except in the following circumstances:

a) Accident or threat of accident;

b) Work that is essential to:

a. The life of the community;
b. National defence; or
c. Security;

c) Urgent work to be done to machinery or plant; or

d) An interruption of work which was impossible to foresee.

A shift worker is not allowed to work more than 12 hours a day under any circumstances.

Overtime

All work in excess of the above hours of work is considered as overtime work, and the employee must be paid no less than 1.5 times his/her hourly basic rate of pay. Payment for overtime work must be made within 14 days after the last day of the salary period.

The rate of payment is not less than one and a half times the employee's hourly basic rate of pay.

For a monthly-rated employee. His hourly basic rate of pay is computed as follows:

For a daily-rated employee, his hourly basic rate of pay is computed as follows:

Working Hours Per Day

For a piece-rated employee, his hourly basic rate of pay is computed as follows:

Total Number of Hours Worked in the Week

Based on the hourly basic rate of pay, the overtime pay for the 3 categories of employees is to be calculated as follows:

Hourly Basic Rate of Pay x 1.5 x Number of Hours of Overtime Worked

Under Part IV of the Employment Act, it is mandatory to make overtime payment to an employee if his basic salary is $1,600 or less a month, or if he is a workman (regardless of his salary level). Generally, a workman is an employee whose work involves manual labour. Some examples of workman are lorry drivers, construction workers, kitchen helpers, machine operators. The minimum rate for overtime pay is 1.5 times the hourly rate of pay. For other categories of employees, overtime pay will depend on the terms stated in their employment contract.

Maximum Hours of Overtime

An employee is permitted to work up to a limit of 72 hours of overtime in a month. However, this limit may be exceeded if the Ministry of Manpower has granted an exemption. (Download the application form for overtime exemption).

For work done on rest days or public holidays it is not included in the 72 hours' limit for overtime. However, if an employee works beyond his normal daily working hours on his rest day or public holiday, the extra hours of work done would be included in the 72 hours' limit for overtime work.

The rate of payment for an employee who works overtime on his rest day and public holiday should be paid at not less than one and a half times his hourly basic rate of pay for the overtime work (as in the case of overtime work on any other day), in addition to his rest day or public holiday pay.

Mat heard that the average household income in Singapore go up by 6.2% man. So happy or not?!?! What?!! Still not happy ah...why man? Ok, relac, wat tokking you when you say household income? So Mat research.

Now got 3 type of income: Nominal, Real and Household lah. Let's take Ah Seng here. Ah Seng in 2005 sell 1,000 pirated vcd and earn $10,000 for 1 month. Each vcd only $1 to make ah. So, now he earn $9,000. That is his Nominal income ah.

But then right, he every month kena catch by Mata. The fine is lets say $5,000. So now he only get $4,000. So that is his Real income. So $4,000 cannot buy BMW, must settle for Honda Civic.

But now right in 2006, the price of pirated vcd right he raise by $2, so now $12. So he sell 1,000, he earn $12,000 1 month. Wah, his nominal income go up man. But wait, still cannot afford BMW because right, the fine also go up. Jialat, go up even more, by $3,000. So now, $12,000 - $1,000 (cost of vcd) - $8,000 (fine), he only earn $3,000. So his Real income down by $1,000. Pity Ah Seng man.

So now, the GST go up, Honda Civic also hard to buy man, can buy only Proton Saga, 2nd hand. So now right, he also get his children in primary school to sell to their friend lah. Then now, the household income will go up.

The only income make money now right is NTUC income man.

Mat lived in Tampines for 13 years man, from 1985 to 1998. During that time, the town change so much. Last time, got no interchange, no tampines mall, no temasek poly but still power cos every evening sure got people play football at the void deck. All you need to do to activate is shout "Oi! Main Bola!". Confirm got orang man.

Anyway, what the hell is a Tampines. Well, Tampines is a tree. You laugh right, but it's true. The species name is Sterblus elongatus and belongs to the Moraceae - Sterblus family/genus. Bicyclely it is a species of Ironwood; it is specifically the Riau Ironwood. It was originally called Tempinis ( Temp-pee-nays ) by the Malays. The spelling evolved to Tampinis and then to the current Tampines.

The Tampines area was a forest and population was little bit. Those who settle there all got small plantation. The Tampines tree grew in abundant in the wild. But then, the greedy men come and then wipe out the tree. The wood is super power and is considered one of the most valuable in South East Asia. Last time got no conservation act, so just take lah. The Tampines Tree is luckier than the Mandai Tree because the Mandai tree warn it to run away. Now got only a few left.

So no more tree, how man? No more tree, take the sand lah. Tampines become quarry. Singapore need sand to build flats.

Mat like to eat. Eating is Singaporean past time right. But Mat is muslim and there are some restrictions for good reason. Here is guideline

Mat was sick last week ah. ALamak, go see doctor here can die man. So here right, cannot just anyhow walk in man. Must make appointment lah, so only can see 2 days later for Mat. Then medicine got to take from pharmacy, then also got to wait 2 hours. Alamak, a lot of people also sick lah but not as sick as Gaia.

Gaia is the a complex entity involving the Earth's biosphere, atmosphere, oceans, and soil; the totality constituting a feedback or cybernetic system which seeks an optimal physical and chemical environment for life on this planet. Cheemmmmmm.....

How big is your footprint, the one you leave permanently on Gaia? Let Mat put it this way. By 2050, if the demand remains at the same level as now ah, we will need 2 more planet Earths worth of resource to support us. Where to find 2 more? You know, better faster tell Mat. Scareded or not? Mat very scareded man. How will my mini Mats survive man?

So ah macam man? What can we do?

Preserve, if cannot, then conserve lah. Let Gaia heal. Do not mine the resource but farm the resource. Look around your house lah, look at the lightbulb. Do you use incandescent or flourescent bulb?

Version Lumber 2: Orang Gallang

Another possible origin to Geylang is the early presence of the fierce orang gallang tribe, one of the many orang laut tribal groups that lived along the coasts and rivers of Singapore island. The orang gallang were well-known for their piracy and pillaging of helpless craft in seas around Singapore island.

Maybe ah, the same thing happen to Kallang like what happen to Geylang. Geylang Serai suppose to be Kilang Serai kena bastardized. Mat will relac one corner and ponder.

Firstly Mat on come back to Bawston on first day of school, so no time to adjust. Straight must classes lah and then auditions lah under jetlagged conditions. Then combine puasa with moving into new apartment...that one is power combo until power bar max up. Finally Mat can relac one corner this weekend. It's a long weekend, no school on monday because of columbus day.

Geylang, the place of Mat's childhood, where Mat first rided a tri-shaw, where Mat makan chendol, is more famously known for a happy ending.

The History of Geylang Serai

There are many versions of Geylang Serai's history. Why? Why got so many? Because no one gives a shit about what the real history is and no one wants to set it right. All we know is this bloody ang moh called Raffles.

Version Lumber 1 : Gaylang River

The history of Geylang Serai begins wih a small settlement consisting of Orang Laut and the Malays on the banks of Gaylang River. In the 1840s, the British Government dispersed the Malay floating village at the mouth of the Singapore River because of its obstruction to port traffic. The Malay inhabitants thus moved inland, with some setting up home in Geylang.

This new settlement at Geylang was known as 'Geylang Kelapa'. 'Kelapa' meaning coconut in Malay suggesting the presence of coconut plantaions. However, since the beginning of the 20th century, the settlement has been known as 'Geylang Serai', 'Serai' in Malay is 'Lemon grass' indicating the growth or cultivation of lemon grass in the area.

This is the story of the Mandai Tree who was lonely and maybe lost forever.

Once upon a time ah, there was a lonely Mandai Tree. The Mandai Tree got no bradda or sista in high places, only low places like the grass, weeds, goats, chickens and boars. So he relac one korner at Bukit Mandai. One day, in 1855, somebody thought it was a good idea to build a road to konek Woodlands Road to Upper Thomson Road lah.

The Mandai Tree was scareded. He call for help, "Tolong! Tolong!" but nobody cared. The grass and weeds all kena cleared and the animals all run away to save themselves only. Although the Mandai Tree has been living here his whole life, he cannot fight the Rain Tree because the Rain Tree is Super Foreign Talent from South America Rainforest. A phone call today made Mat's day man. The story like this. Yesterday, Mat sakit perut man, almost want to die lah. Mat remember a pain sama-sama to this one when in primary school. At that time, Mat ate Kway Teow Goreng from the original Satay Club and then kena food poisoning. Went to the original Changi Hospital.

This time, the feeling the sama man, like got broken glass in Mat's intestine. No choice lah, got to go to the Family Clinic across the street.

( Turn on soundtrack to Saving Private Ryan-nudin ).

When the lift reached the level gilo and the door open, Mat collapsed onto the concrete and leopard crawl towards the stairs. With one arm on the injury, Mat flung himself to the railings and struggled up the stairs and got himself ready to cross the road. Many enemy vehicles at full speed in the school zone, all ignoring the barriers to stop them from speeding. Mat, with his advance frogger training, timed this run to perfection. Once on the other side of the road, Mat asked the chicken why he crossed the road but without waiting, Mat made a slow motion baywatch style dash to the clinic.

Mat was rushed to the treatment room, ya, cut queue man. Mat was loosing liquid fast, from the backside and from the mouth. No time to spare, the doctor came in, ask Mat to relac one korner with his shorts down and AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Mat took a shot in the right papadum.....instant relac-tion man. Mat passed out for much of sunday.

Anyway, today Mat received a pleasant surprise phone call. It was someone from the clinic. She ask Mat if Mat is safe and sound. Yes Yes, Mat is safe and sound. What a nice phone call man, so thoughtful. I wish more people so nice in Singapore. Then everyone will be happier.

Singapore once again came out tops in an international survey of 30 countries including Japan, the United States of America and Germany. The criteria covered a wide area including waiting time and frequency of public transport, custom clearance at checkpoints and ordering of fast food.

Straight Times managed to get in touch with the store manager of Mosque Burger, Mr Noh Mannersudin. Mr Noh explains how he found the perfect recipe for maximum efficiency. "My staff is super highly trained. Every situation ah, they know how to respond. Like example ah, the order process, we try to cut the time down. No chit chat or non-important words like Thank You or Please. These words just waste our time and your time also. We just say, "Want Wat?", "Total is xxx". Sentence limit to 3 words ah. Today was super wet man. Rain and rain and rain. Lucky Mat has moved almost everything into storage. Mat flying back to Singapore this thursday, reaching saturday. Basket, lose one whole friday, disappear like go in bermuda triangle.

Anyway, Mat went to Christina's again. It's the local ice cream shop a few blocks from Mat's apartment, in Inman Square. It is like a weekly ritual man. Every week must go, become regular, until know the guy's name.

Every week also ask the same question. Eh bradda, got Rose Water Ice Cream? This is Bandung ice cream, ang moh call rose water. Every week answer also no. 2nd question, eh bradda, got chocolate raspberry? Then, he think..."I've 1/2 a gallon left. I give it to you for $10." Wah liao...$10 for 1/2 gallon, like struck lottery. 1/2 gallon is 4 pints. Usually 1 pint go for $5. So now get 50% discount. WOO HOOO...power max!

Right now, Mat go enjoy. Just now got mocha chibabom ( mocha explosion ). Now have one more cup of choc rasp.

Anyway, Mat recently got a used Canon G5... power maximus man! Last time, Mat use the cheapo point and shoot camera, cannot make it man. Go Italy chibabom on the 2nd day. Then got to borrow other people's camera.

So the other day, saturday, the weather was super nice. Mat and girl go out to bike along the Charles River. Mat took this shot.

This was taken from Longfellow bridge in the evening with the sun in the west. The objective was to capture the "soul" (reflection) in the Hancock Tower.

World Cup: Rules for Women

Extremely important advice and recommendations to be passed on to wives, girlfriends, fiancés, mothers, sisters, daughters, etc. (to all women in general).

These rules are to be communicated prior to the World Cup in June/July this year...

LIST OF RULES

1. From 9 June to 9 July 2006, you should read the sports section of the newspaper so that you are aware of what is going on regarding the World Cup, and that way you will be able to join in the conversations. If you fail to do this, then you will be looked at in a bad way, or you will be totally ignored. DO NOT complain about not receiving any attention.

2. During the World Cup, the television is mine, at all times, without any exceptions. If you even take a glimpse of the remote control, you will lose it (your eye).

3. If you have to pass by in front of the TV during a game, I don't mind, as long as you do it crawling on the floor and without distracting me. If you decide to stand nude in front of the TV, make sure you put clothes on right after because if you catch a cold, I wont have time to take you to the doctor or look after you during the World Cup month.

4. During the games I will be blind, deaf and mute, unless I require a refill of my drink or something to eat. You are out of your mind if you expect me to listen to you, open the door, answer the telephone, or pick up the baby that just fell from the second floor....it wont happen.

5. It would be a good idea for you to keep at least 2 six packs of lemon barley in the fridge at all times, as well as plenty of things to nibble on, and please do not make any funny faces to my friends when they come over to watch the games. In return, you will be allowed to use the TV when i'm alseep.

6. Please, please, please!! if you see me upset because one of my teams is losing, DO NOT say "get over it, its only a game", or "don't worry, they'll win next time". If you say these things, you will only make me angrier and I will love you less. Remember, you will never ever know more about football than me and your so called "words of encouragement" will only lead to a break up or divorce.

7. You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me during halftime but only when the commercials are on, and only if the halftime score is pleasing me. In addition, please note I am saying "one" game, hence do not use the World Cup as a nice cheesy excuse to "spend time together".

8. The replays of the goals are very important. I don't care if I have seen them or I haven't seen them, I want to see them again. Many times.

9. Tell your friends NOT to have any babies, or any other child related parties or gatherings that requires my attendance because:
a) I will not go,
b) I will not go, and
c) I will not go.

10. But, if a friend of mine invites us to his house on a Sunday to watch a game, we will be there in a flash.

11. The daily World Cup highlights show on TV every night is just as important as the games themselves. Do not even think about saying "but you have already seen this...why don't you change the channel to something we can all watch??", the reply will be: "Refer to Rule #2 of this list".

12. And finally, please save your expressions such as "Thank God the World Cup is only every 4 years". I am immune to these words, because after this comes the Champions League, Italian League, Spanish League, Premier League, etc etc.

NEC Concerto Competition

Anyway, today at 2pm, Mat played in the school's concerto competition. Mat played the Arutunian Concerto. Actually, it was ok. At the end, Mat got super glue lips again but this time, Mat try to relax more so didn't end too badly.

National Trumpet Competition

Yo Mat Riders,

Apa macam braddas and sistas... alamak, dah lama Mat tak blog. Super busy man. From Feb to now, no space to breathe man. Finally, now is spring break...can relac a bit.

Mat just came back from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia from the National Trumpet Competition. What a good weekend. Drive quite long man. Mat left wednesday. Mat made pit-stop in NYC first, relac over there with friends. Then thursday morning continue to Virginia.

The competition was great. www.nationaltrumpetcomp.org. Many great trumpet players like Bobby shew, David Hickman, Chris Gekker and Chris Jaudes performed. Mat had the opportunity to play at a masterclass for Hickman, Jaudes and Shew in front of 100 trumpet players. As you can guess...nervous like hell but it was ok.

The competition lasted from 16-19th. Mat's semi-finals was on the 18th. 32 semi-finalists, only 4 will make it, so mat din make it. The competition was amazing. The people who made it deserved it. The best part is we get back comment sheets so we know what to work on.

Mat din stick around for the finals and decided to drive back. Drive was amazingly pleasant. Mat got some audiobooks from the Boston Public Library. Man...didn't know the rape of Nanking was so brutal...anyway, Mat stopped by Yale on the way back. Had some singaporean food man, cooked by singaporeans! This place, Ivy noodles, in Yale. Hung out with a couple of friends for dinner before heading back to Boston.

This post is controversial. This is not a post condemning other religions but to explain the reason behind Islam’s insistence on a no-image policy.

Recently, the mat saleh newspaper all go and print some caricatures of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). Alamak, big mistake man. Of course, a lot of muslims damn angry. They go and burn the mat saleh embassy. Mat doesn’t support both sides lah. The violence is bad although no one got hurt. The images lagi bad man. Mat tell you why ok?

In Islamic tradition, got a lot of prophets. The major ones, Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and finally Mohammad (pbut). So in the history, got no drawing or photo of them lah. Reason is simple. God is one and prophets are human. So if we have pics of them, some people will deviate and then worship them; hard to worship somebody without image right? Most religions got images.

Then, now, after thousands of years, do we know or have the original image? Last time got no photo, all drawings. So left to the skill and imagination of the artist is it? Isn’t to deviate from the original a blasphemy? This point not mine mat riders but Platonist.

Images are dangerous. The same image can bring laughter to some but sorrow to others. The images arouses the emotions which clouds reasoning and this is quite clearly a provocation. So yes, Freedom of speech; but what is too much?

Anyway, now you can see, the idol worship has changed from stone or gold sculptures to posters and photos of pop singers and actors. Let’s face it. Freedom of speech and expression has never existed and never will but that is another matter.

Dear Cretins,

I have been an NTL customer since 9th July 2001, when I signed up for
your 3-in-one deal for cable TV, cable modem, and telephone. During this
three-month period I have encountered inadequacy of service which I had
not previously considered possible, as well as ignorance and stupidity
of monolithic proportions. Please allow me to provide specific details,
so that you can either pursue your professional perogative, and seek to
rectify these difficulties - or more likely (I suspect) so that you can
have some entertaining reading material as you while away the working
day smoking B&H and drinking vendor-coffee on the bog in your office:
My initial installation was cancelled without warning, resulting in my
spending an entire Saturday sitting on my fat arse waiting for your
technician to arrive. When he did not arrive, I spent a further 57
minutes listening to your infuriating hold music, and the even more
annoying Scottish robot woman telling me to look at your helpful
website....HOW?

I alleviated the boredom by playing with my testicles for a few minutes
- an activity at which you are no-doubt both familiar and highly adept.
The rescheduled installation then took place some two weeks later,
although the technician did forget to bring a number of vital tools -
such as a drill-bit, and his cerebrum. Two weeks later, my cable modem
had still not arrived. After 15 telephone calls over 4 weeks my modem
arrived... six weeks after I had requested it, and begun to pay for it.
I estimate your internet server's downtime is roughly 35%... hours
between about 6pm -midnight, Mon-Fri, and most of the weekend. I am
still waiting for my telephone connection. I have made 9 calls on my
mobile to your no-help line, and have been unhelpfully transferred to a
variety of disinterested individuals, who are it seems also highly
skilled bollock jugglers.

I have been informed that a telephone line is available (and someone
will call me back); that no telephone line is available (and someone
will call me back); that I will be transferred to someone who knows
whether or not a telephone line is available (and then been cut off);
that I will be transferred to someone (and then been redirected to an
answer machine informing me that your office is closed); that I will be
transferred to someone and then been redirected to the irritating
Scottish robot woman...and several other variations on this theme.
Doubtless you are no longer reading this letter, as you have at least a
thousand other dissatisfied customers to ignore, and also another one of
those crucially important testicle-moments to attend to. Frankly I don't
care, it's far more satisfying as a customer to voice my frustration's
in print than to shout them at your unending hold music. Forgive me,
therefore, if I continue.

I thought BT were ****, that they had attained the holy piss-pot of godawful
customer relations, that no-one, anywhere, ever, could be more
disinterested, less helpful or more obstructive to delivering service to
their customers. That's why I chose NTL, and because, well, there isn't
anyone else is there? How surprised I therefore was, when I discovered
to my considerable dissatisfaction and disappointment what a useless
shower of bastards you truly are. You are sputum-filled pieces of
distended rectum incompetents of the highest order.

British Telecom - wankers though they are - shine like brilliant beacons
of success, in the filthy puss-filled mire of your seemingly limitless
inadequacy. Suffice to say that I have now given up on my futile and
foolhardy quest to receive any kind of service from you. I suggest that
you cease any potential future attempts to extort payment from me for
the services which you have so pointedly and catastrophically failed to
deliver - any such activity will be greeted initially with hilarity and
disbelief quickly be replaced by derision, and even perhaps bemused
rage. I enclose two small deposits, selected with great care from my
cats litter tray, as an expression of my utter and complete contempt for
both you and your pointless company. I sincerely hope that they have not
become desiccated during transit - they were satisfyingly moist at the
time of posting, and I would feel considerable disappointment if you did
not experience both their rich aroma and delicate texture. Consider them
the very embodiment of my feelings towards NTL, and its worthless
employees.

Have a nice day - may it be the last in you miserable short life, you
irritatingly incompetent and infuriatingly unhelpful bunch of twats.

Epidemic in Boston

On Sunday, January 15th 2006, a huge epidemic swept Boston by surprise. People were coughing, choking and in tears. There was a lot of confusion as people wandered around aimlessly looking for help and explanation. A group of experts from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) were called in to assess the situation.

Mr. Dick Short, who leads the team, said, “The country should not panic. This outbreak has been assessed and there is no danger to the rest of the country. Apparently this started on Saturday night when the Patriots choked and it should clear up by August when pre-season starts.”

Everyone has eaten chocolate but how many got to taste the fruit. The fruit damn power man. Imagine like a soursop but sweet. Alamak, now Mat miss soursop also.

Mat loves chocolate. Mat last time got chance to go to Belgium, chocolate heaven man. Neuhaus is the best. The hot chocolate is made from a block of pure chocolate that is melted. Yum!!!!!!!

Ski Mat

Yo Mat Riders,

Yesterday, Mat go ski with 100 plus boy and A-Ho. We go to Mount Sunapee in New Hampshire. Super near one, only 1 ½ hrs drive. Wednesday got best deal man, 2 for 1 special. Got only 3 of us right but we found another person there single also. Save money babe.

Ski conditions quite power. The sky cloudy so won’t get sunburn; quite warm, around 5 celcius. Not many people around and the snow very well packed. A-Ho comprain cos the snow too nicely packed for boarding. She quite pro man, got her own equipment, boots and board. 100 plus boy also pro skier. Mat is a 3 time veteran...hehehe… Kucing kurap but still need to look good man. So Mat got demo skis.

Only noon and we already run down almost all the trails man, sometimes twice. Wah super fast man. Mat cannot slow down man dunno why, no ABS. So we makan at the summit. There got small cafeteria. Alamak, food there terok man. Next time must ski in Japan, then can have sushi lunch…yum!

After lunch, the conditions worsen. Looked like macam nak rain, become super cloudy, cannot see past 3-4meters. So we skied another 2-3hrs and then balik kampong. On the last run, we tried double diamond. Wooooohoooooo. Shiok man.

Mat loves ice cream. Long long ago already want to go visit the factory. Finally now got chance man. Mat, gal and 3 friends went. 4hr drive to Waterbury, Vermont. Drive was smooth and we stopped for Piss and Cheeps.

The factory not so big but still power man. Everyday only make 2 fravor. First, see video of history and then walk over to the processing section. Mat dissappointed, got no umpa lumpa to sing and dance. Then last, go have sample scoops.

The sample not enough lah. Mat buy more, fravorite fravor, Chocolate Therapy. Alamak, Mat got bad news from them. Chocolate Therapy will be discontinued man. Alamak... Mat better stock up.

So Mat has been busy lah. December was a hell of a month with exams and papers due and relacing to do after that. This is Mat's 3rd year in Bawston lah. So fast man, feeling macam 1 1/2 years only. Time really flies when you get older.

The chinese are at it again man. From dogs to cats and now to rats. Alamak, what next man? I think China no need to produce nuclear weapon cos they can produce biological weapon, new strains of viruses hahaha... I think China will be the last place on earth if i kena go man. I rather go to Iraq, get shot or north pole and freeze my ass off. Who knows where the rats come from, maybe here, from the toilet.

Mat has taken a step into the dark side. Mat has sold his Rio Carbon and bought a 60gb Ipod Video.

Actually ah, Mat really cannot tahan the older Ipod man. The sound quality really terok man. Then Mat found a good deal on the Video but cannot tell cos need to protect innocent lives man. If Mat tell, then Mat will have to kill you.

Anyway, this Ipod damn power. Can play video man. Now i can download episodes of Desperate Housewives and Law and Order from Itunes. ONLY $1.99 per episode. Wah liao, no need to depend on people to tape for me. Also can download video podcast, then take bus go school can watch the news. Buay tahan man.

Another important thing is got line out option. As you know the headphone out not very good ( actually, the ipod video headphone out improved a lot ), so need to bypass the internal amp. Line out give you the pure sound lah, like when you squeeze the pure oreng joo, not buy the bluff joo from the mamak shop.

Last thing braddas and sistas, need to protect your Ipod. So i got this Invisible Shield. SUPER POWER MAX man. Check out this link.

T40 Resurrected

Yo Mat Riders,

For a while, Mat tak ada feeling to blog lah because my IBM suddenly chibaboom. Dunno wat happen man, listening to music sekali frozen. Try to restart but tak boleh man.

So Mat buy new system board lah from ebay. The stupid IBM want to charge like 500 ketul to change my board man. Basket! No warranty already. Alamak! Nevermind, Mat go ebay and buy a better board at half the price. Board fly to Mat from Malaysia man, so funny. Take 2 weeks.

Then Mat realized that with the new board, I need a new fan to cool the graphic card. From 32mb Radeon, now become 128mb FireGL; Mat got the power! Take another 2 weeks. So total 1 month to get the parts.

So now, Mat ready to fix up. Here are some pics lah. At first Mat quite scared one. Scared short circuit something and then need to buy more stuff. Lucky, quite straightforward lah, but still in the end got 1 extra screw..LOL!!!

Today Mat was having fun with the HF-1. If you dunno what it is, Mat can exprain to you ok? This is a recent issue for Head-fiers. Basically Head-fiers are the people from head-fi.org; it's a headphone forum. So this Mat Salleh make this special edition headphones for us. Power right. Only got 450. After that, go suck thumb if you want. Mat got lucky #99.

To find out more about Grado, go to his website. Qute cool lah. His company only got like 10-15 people in Brooklyn, NY. Some more fight with the giants like Sennheiser. Anyway, some pix. I changed from stock pads to reserved Sennheisers HD414 pads. More comfy. Then i put my timbuk2 shoulder pad over the headband.

Today morning, Mat went from kena sai feeling to super happy max. So at 9.45am EST (Eastern Standard Time), Mat was expecting a package from fedex. So Mat was sitting and reading facing the balcony so that he can see the van. Then, the van just drive past man.

ALAMAK! Mat ran down, then saw a note. It say that Mat wasn't home. Wah liao...you know wat? The stupid door buzz tak work man because the maintenance man kill the power to repair something thing, dunno wat lah; oh ya, the laundry machine outlet or something.

So Mat call the HQ and ask the guy ke-belakang pusing man. Lucky the guy came back. Fwah! Not bad, quite effecient. Better than UPS or DHL. DHL come 3 time, never leave me note. Then say the note may be lost; 3 freaking times ah? Basket!

So, introducing all the way from Taiwan...*dlum loll*

So wat is it? This, matriders, is my latest addition to my setup. Cute Beyond Headphone Amplifier. The sound damn power. The bass is tight and punchy and the highs are tamer but crispier. The mids are smoother. Soundstage is wider and the instrument seperation is clearer. Shiok man. Listening to Diana Krall, Live in Paris now. Eargasm!

2005 Fall Boston Head-Fi Meet

So today Mat Love went to the most power meet sial. About 20 people showed up with their equipment. I was like a kid in a candy store man. I super small fry there. Everyone bring their super power tube amp and headphones and stuff.

Got 3 manufacturers came. Singlepower, Ray Samuels and Headroom (Tyll). They fly in from Denver, Montana etc...power right...so hardcore man. Some more, today was Ray's birthday...

Ok, Mat spent 3 hours there, some more 45 mins drive there and 45 mins drive back. Damn tired now...koon now!

1st day of snow - Winter 2005

Today, it snowed unexpectedly. At first, it was rain mixed with snow and then the snow got really heavy. It's really beautiful. Thank goodness i didn't have to travel this time. Here's a pic.

Anyway, snow is extra early this year. Good news for ski season! WOOHOO! As usual, boston being boston, today's tempature = 0 celcius, tomorrow 17 celcius. Now i know why they manufacture thermometers for the home.

Fasting in Boston is good and bad. In the winter, it is damn cold so when i play my trumpet, no power man. But i also break fast earlier, like now, it's 5.45pm. Next week, it'll be 5.15pm etc.. Hmm...i wonder how for summer man. The sun go home at 9pm only. ALAMAK!!!!!! I check later.

Getting ready for winter

Mat Love is getting ready for winter. Winter in Boston, good and bad lah. When the first snow storm comes, pretty max sial. Only thing is, make sure you are at home and not travelling. Wah liao, if travelling, pain in the butt man.

Last winter, got super power max blizzard in January. Choon choon that day, i had to take the train to Maryland for an audition. Alamak, i damn suay man. So, it snowed the night before and i had to leave at 7am. When i stepped out of the house, the snow was about 1 meter deep man, but i had to go to the train station, no choice. And it was still snowing, won't stop till at night.

Reached station, all trains delayed 4 hours. Alamak! Then i tot, maybe should buy business class, can relac better. Basket, the business coach heater spoil and the door cannot close. So my ass was freezing man and no one bothered to inform us. I only found out when it got too cold. Then had to sit in the cafe cart. Total journey time was 9 bloody hours. So arrived about 9.30pm at my friend's place. Some more, amtrak won't give refund. Idiots! NEVER EVER TAKE AMTRAK!

But winter also fun man. Can go skiing. Skiing is like flying. You take the lift up for 5 mins and then you fly downhill and can see this pee-nor-mi-nal view man. Can't describe the feeling. 100 plus boy is a good skier. He force me to go down diamond course (advance). So now i praying hope that there will be a power snow storm this year man.

Car accident

Yo Mat Riders,

Today, Mat kena his 1st car accident lah and it involved 3 cars. Jangan catastrophe ok! Mat and his girl is not hurt in any way. The only things damaged were the front and rear bumper. Anyway, here's the story.

So, today, it was raining quite heavy. Mat and girl just watch Wallace and Gromit and going back by storrow drive ( small highway ). Then suddenly, all the cars in front started braking very hard man. Mat also brake lah, choon choon stop 2 inches behind the car in front. Mat was just about to congratulate himself for his wolverine-like reflex when sekali a car from behind ram into Mat, and then Mat's car bump the front one.

So the 3 cars pulled over. We all got out and discussed what happened. Apparently, the front car said that got bloody cab suddenly brake to let off/pick up a passenger. KNNBCCB!!! Tot this kind of thing only happen in Singapore man. Alamak, damn suay man. The car in front of Mat transporting autistic children. Pity them man. The car behind, bonnet kena squashed man. Mat's car quite lucky. The car behind ram into Mat's spare tire. So no 1 dent behind and 1 in front; lucky both on bumper.

So the cop came and decided the last car bumped both the front cars. Jia lat for the last car man. Still student also and car quite new. Insurance will increase like kena katrina. Now, Mat's car will be appraised lah on monday. See how lah. Hope no need to pay anything.

Mat damn suay man. 1st laptop chi ba boom and now car accident. Must go bathe with flower water man. But dunno wat flower to pick. Chrysanthemum can or not? Can buy Yeo's one at supermarket. LOL!

Mat used to hate literature

Yo Mat Riders,

Mat now taking some liberal arts in school. Last time, Mat used to hate literature in school man. You know why or not? Because last time the teacher also ask for Mat's opinion and then condemn Mat. How many kena like that? Put right hand up high high. You know what Mat is saying right?

Can't help it lah, Mat always look from different angle. Cannot gum with the teacher. Seems like literature in secondary school also got model answer. Either that way or the highway. So Mat tak like it.

Writing essay also like that. Teachers always like the happy stories and you must have intro, body and conclusion. Mat's essays about paranormal, satan, rape, murder and drugs cannot pass sial. Also if the ending is first and the end is the start also tak boleh, like the movie momento. Ok lah, that i can agree lah. But why cannot illustrate like a murder scene for example. Teacher ask you to read news paper. You read about murder or rape everyday in the lousy newpaper.

Actually, the biggest news in singapore only about tree branch fall on the road. When the tree branch fall on the road, the motorist don't want to pick it up and move it. Instead, they will call newpaper and they come take picture, make front page news. Alamak, i want to cry man. Tree branch fall on road also can become front page news.

Last time, this old man ask me stupid question. I was turning pass the orbituary and then he ask me how come got so many people face. I told him, these people dangerous, wanted by the police. Then he ask, how come got so many old people. Then i say they run away from parole. Then ask me how come got small children. Then i say, the children urine in the swimming pool.

Wah, another topic, how many of you see the parents tell the children to urine in the swimming pool. Wah liao eh, damn gross man. If i see this kind of parent, i sure slap the face one. How can man. Everyone swim, maybe sometimes will drink the water also. That's why Mat never ever go swimming pool anymore man. Wanna swim, go sentosa.

Mat's laptop Chi Ba Boom!

Mat Love long time never write already. Alamak, no inspiration lah. Mat's laptop chi ba boom! So sad man. Mat was listening to music and then suddenly it froze. Then mat did autopsy; stripped the whole thing apart sial.

Mat now thinks it is the system board that mati. So Mat ordered a new one lah. Money fly away... At least it is an upgrade. Now Mat can play more power games on his laptop like Swat 4. Last time, the graphics card was 32mb Ati 7500. Now 128mb.. MUAHAHAHAHA... Mat has the power!

Only thing must wait 2-3 weeks. Aiyar, so long one. Better than paying 3 times as much getting it from IBM. They all damn basket man. So expensive sial. For now, Mat has to be thankful with my girl's old Vaio; she also upgrade to IBM. Just my luck lah mat riders.

Mat Love is obsessed with great sound and music man. You will ask, sound and music not same ah? No man! Music is the songs you hear. Great sound is the quality of recording, source, amp and output. For a long time, Mat has never understooded why people spend all their mulas on hifi equipment. Song is song right? Where it's radio or walkman or mp3 player, still song what. WRONG MAN!

Mat Riders, you know that the ipod is damn expensive max sial, but you know or not how much the earphones cost to make? Maybe $1 man. So cheapo. The headphones make a big difference man. People ask Mat, how much his stuff cost. Then when they hear the price, they all damn shock like see ghost. Why can people buy diesel jeans but cannot buy headphones? Mat never buy diesel jeans, buy headphones instead.

Anyway, today 2 headphones knocked on Mat's door.

I number #99. Dunno how many they going to make but i think tak more than 400.

These suckers made in Brooklyn, NY. Handmade by personnel from the Grado factory. Maybe only got 10-20 workers. Took me a whole month to get them man. But it's worth it. EARGASMIC!!!!!!!!!!

Without doubt, the internet has been one of last century’s greatest inventions. People can now be connected to it via a phone line no matter where they are. But does discrimination exist in cyberspace? Unconsciously, the internet is a big “screen,” shielding each individual from discrimination. However, this is far from the truth. In “Is There a There in Cyberspace?” John Perry Barlow says,

“Present, but in far less abundance than in the physical world, which I call ‘meat space,’ are women, children, old people, poor people, and the genuinely blind. Also mostly missing are the illiterate and the continent of Africa.”

Currently, due to high cost of computers, low education and poor infrastructure, these people are not only not able to participate but also are being neglected; thus widening the gap between the connected and the ignorant. Discrimination also still persists online. In an online forum, an individual might be singled out for having bad spelling or grammar. Bloggers openly discriminate against individuals they come into contact with in real life. Now, does discrimination exist in cyberspace?

Sennheiser HD414 50th Anniversary Edition

Yo Mat Riders,

In this photo above, you will see my girl wearing the Sennheiser HD414 50th Anniversary Edition that was released in 1995. The "cans" you are seeing are the re-make of the original. THESE ARE EXTREMELY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND NOW. And i got them for $25!!!!!!! You know when the original was release or not? 1967 man!!!!!!!! They revolutionised the headphone industry my braddas and sistas. They are the LIM PEIs of headphones.

Let me explain man. Before 1967, all headphones were closed design, that means the sound never escape the headphones. Then sennheiser suddenly got idea to make sound leak. This makes the headphones an open design and sound more spacious man. What a power concept sial! The invention was covered by the German patent no. 1537700 on November 4, 1967. You know what? They expected to sell only 400, but 360,000 were sold in 2 years man. Now millions! Basket, so powderful! I SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Mat Riders,

Today is a sad day; a day i wished would never ever come. But it did and my heart is shattered. The songs sung by my Sennheiser HD595 offer little comfort. Today, i have been dumped.....again.. and it never gets easier because they were all perfect in their own way.

No. 1 dumped me in Sydney, in a McDonalds.
No. 2 dumped me also in Sydney, in the Opera House.
No. 3 dumped me in Helsinki and took a bus heading for St Petersburg.
No. 4 dumped me in a cab, dropped me off in Woodlands and took off.
No. 5 dumped me in Plaza Singapura golden village cinema.
Lastly, No. 6 just dumped me in Harvard Square while i was shopping in Adidas.

Each time, i was caught by surprise, totally oblivious. At first, panic would strike me and then it would develop into anger and then finally misery. I wonder if i deserve this. Now, i'm just depress....

I want to shame these devils!!!!!!!

Yo Mat Riders,

As you know, Matlove likes to play sports, almost any kind of sports lah. Badminton, tennis, soccer, mountain biking, basketball, skiing, pool (if you call pool a sport). Anyway, i'll play anything except golf and bowling lah. Wah liao, my bowling terok man. Everything time throw the ball into the longkang, damn paiseh man. My girl used to be in the bowling team in JC, alamak, she always beat me lah. Mind games also cannot beat her. Jia lat man.

Anyway, i love team sports best, doubles for racket games. Sports are fun but the people make it even more fun. Take for example my tennis partner, Mao. Alamak, sometimes super hard to concentrate playing lah, cos we laugh too much on the court. Instead of playing mind games with the opponent, we will play mind games with each other to see us screw up and then suan jialat jialat.

Winter is coming, in 2-3 months. That means, SKI SEASON....WOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! This year, Matlove will conquer new slopes. Main target is Jay's Peak in Vermont. Skiing is like flying man. 100+ boy is quite pro, he always go alps. Last year we went to Mount Sunapee together. It's in New Hampshire and only about 1 1/2hrs drive. Some more if go on wednesday, it's 2 for 1. Damn power. We also now only use demo skis. For only $10 more, you get better performance man.
